Front End Engineering Design (FEED) & Environmental Impact
Assessment for the Natural Gas Interconnection Greece – Bulgaria
(IGB Project)

of ICGB AD (BULGARIAN ENERGY HOLDING EAD–EDISON Spa–DEPA S.A.)

The IGB pipeline will transport natural gas over the border between Greece and Bulgaria, connecting the existing Komotini Station in Greece with an existing gas pipeline near the Bulgarian town of Stara Zagora with a transportation capacity of appr. 3 bNcm/y.
The project will contribute to increase the energy security of supply by diversifying the routes and sources for gas imports into Bulgaria, Greece and further into South East Europe, allowing gas imports from Caspian and Middle East Sources.
The project consists of the following main facilities and components:

  • 182 km of 32 inch diameter high-pressure gas pipeline with a reverse flow option
  • 9 No. Block Valve Stations
  • Two Terminal Scraper Stations
  • Two Gas Metering Stations at Komotini and Stara Zagora
  • Two offtakes and Automated Gas Regulation Stations at the Bulgarian towns of Kardjali and Dimitrovgrad
  • Provision for future Compressor Facilities
  • A dedicated SCADA / Control and Telecomminications facilities for the new Pipeline System
  • One Dispatch / Operational and Maintenance Base in Bulgaria
